A VERY FINE EARLY COLONIAL/THIRTY YEARS WAR PERIOD GERMAN/DUTCH WHEELOCK OFFICER'S PISTOL, ca. 1620: In overall very fine condition with smooth steel surfaces and a very fine fruitwood fullstock. Octagonal-to-Round, pin-fastened, sighted, 16 1/2", iron, smoothbore, .55 caliber barrel with a fine and smooth age-patina and sharp contours: the breech-top with a German (Nuremberg) "P" maker's mark {Stockel No. 8094} which is found on Wherelock Pistols, ca. 1590. (Please see E. Heer's: "Der Neue Stockel" vol. 2, pg. 994). "Dutch type" wheelock mechanism with its sliding pan-cover, an exposed wheel and its bottom-mounted wheel-bridle. Molded and finely carved, Fruitwood fullstock with sharp contours, 85%+ finish and only light scattered handling marks. Martial-type, full iron mounts/furniture: a screw-fastened "L"-shaped trigger-guard with a pointed finial, a single sheet-steel ramrod pipe and a matching steel fore-end cap. Sculpted and flared butt with its original iron butt-cap and complete with both (2) of its sidebolts and its wooden ramrod with steel tip, en suite. In overall very fine+ condition with sharp contours and smooth metal and wood surfaces. Very Fine stock with only light scattered handling marks and light signs of use and wear. Smooth iron surfaces with much polish, sharp contours and only some light scattered discoloration and salt & pepper. Retains sharp contours and markings. The lock with matching smooth steel surfaces, its original components and is in functional order with strong springs. Overall length 24 1/4". A rare and fine quality example of an Early Colonial/Thirty-Years War Period Military Wheelock Pistol, ca. 1620. Price: $13,775.00
